Get Professional Pictures Using These Easy Tricks

Photography is a very artistic hobby that has become much more popular recently. Although many people are interested in photography, many people never fully explore it because they are intimidated by the amount of knowledge you need to begin photographing well. Read this article to get some easy tips to get you started.

If you don't practice though, you can't ever get better. Digital photography has been able to give those that were scared of taking bad pictures a way out. Digital photography gives you the chance to take many pictures without worrying about using lots of film and costly development. You can shoot as many pictures as you want, learning many techniques as you go.

When choosing which of your photos to show others, choose the ones of which you are the most proud. Keep things fresh and not repetitive. Just because you took a photo does not mean you have to show it. Those viewing your photos are sure to quickly bore from seeing the same subject repeatedly. Change it around a little; show different types of photographs.

Employ digital post-processing to make photos appear as pencil sketches, water colors, oil paintings, and more. While there are a variety of software products available for purchase, Adobe Photoshop is listed as one of the best. With Photoshop, photos can be instantly converted to works of art by simply selecting the effect you desire.

White balance is something you need to take into consideration and you should manually be setting this. Most cameras will automatically choose white balance, but for better control over your images, you should set this manually. If you change the white balance, you can remove yellow tints that are caused by certain light bulbs or change the mood.

Try using the flash when taking photos outdoors. This will help reduce the predominance of shadows formed in bright sunlight. If you don't use the flash, your subjects might be cast entirely in shadow so that viewers can't tell who is in the photo.

In this digital age it can still be pleasurable to experiment with old fashioned film photography to achieve some different results. Black and white ISO 200 film will take beautiful photos with an old time charm. After the film is developed, try getting prints on various paper types, like fiber papers.

All photographers would do well to remember that the camera's settings are there for a reason. Be certain that you're using settings properly to capture objects that move quickly. If not, you'll be left with motion blur on your photos. Increase your shutter speed to get better shots. The final shots will come out clearer, with little or no blur.

Play with the aperture or shutter and film speed to modify the exposure of your pictures. Exposure techniques alone can do wonders for the final images you archive.

Many photographers ignore the foreground in their shots focusing on the background, but the viewer sees the foreground. Add some interesting elements or colors to your foreground to create a better frame for your landscape.

If taking photos with fluorescent lighting as the only available light source, adjust the cameras white balance to the proper settings. If you don't compensate for the missing red tones, photographs taken under fluorescent lighting will end up with a cooler tone caused by the bluish-green light.

Use manual white balance for taking your photos. This will change the mood within your photograph, and allow you to control exactly how your composition turns out. It will take some time to learn how to adjust the white balance for the proper look; however, in the end, it will allow you to add a little creative flair to your pictures.

When you are taking photographs, you cannot stay passive. You must stay engaged by directing the objects you are shooting. Be courageous, and direct your subjects to do what you want them to do. These type of photos will appear more staged, so try taking some candid photographs too.

If you want to be able to take great photos, take lots of them. You'll need a memory card large enough to hold them all. A larger memory card will allow you to take as many pictures as you need without worrying about running out of space on the card. If your memory card is large, you will be able to shoot using RAW format. This gives you a great deal of post-production flexibility.

When preparing to shoot, you should hold your camera close to your trunk and grip it firmly on the sides and bottom. This will help create clear shots with less shaking. Additionally, by cradling your hands around and under the camera, it will prevent accidental dropping of the device.

When photographing your children, you will likely get the results you want if you allow them to be free and natural. It's next to impossible to get children to sit still for a photograph as they tend to have a lot of energy. Consider, instead, trying to get some action shots to enjoy memories of the children in their natural state.

You don't always have to take your photographs with the camera held horizontally! Turning your camera vertically can make a good, striking shot. Zoom in if necessary to get a full effect, or zoom out to capture human subjects from head to toe.

A fantastic photography tip is to constantly look at other photographers for inspiration. Their photos will help you remember that there are different ways that you can take a picture of a particular subject.

Blur the background of shots with people in them just a little bit. A focused background can distract viewers from seeing the beauty of your intended subject. Make sure you place the background further away than normal when you are shooting your subject.

Photography is an art form that interests a large number of people. For many people, it never gets beyond the hobby stage due to the difficulty of sorting out everything they need to know to advance beyond the beginner level.

Excellent Suggestions For Improving Your Photography Techniques

Knowing the what's and how's of photography at times may be challenging. The reason for this is usually that they simply don't know where to find good advice on photography. The following article will give you a lot of knowledge about photography.

To understand the various types of lighting, you need to experiment with your camera's settings, as well as natural and artificial light. All visible light has some sort of color associated with it, and manipulating the color to your advantage allows you to get the best shots.

Do not limit yourself to capturing smiles when it comes to taking photographs. You can express more organic and natural emotions when people have expressions that are natural to them. Some of the most unforgettable photographs ever taken support this fact. A couple of examples include the photograph known as the "Migrant Mother," one of a series of images taken in California during the Great Depression, and National Geographic's photo of the Afghan girl taken in 1984 in a Pakistani refugee camp. No matter if your pictures change someone's life or are simply an everyday happening, the emotions should be nothing less than real.

When you are shooting a photo, do so quickly. Be prepared to snap that image before it disappears. Expressions can change, animals will run away, and the mood you associate with a landscape can disappear. Don't risk missing a great shot because you're worried about getting all the settings on your camera correct.

A tripod will come in handy while trying to take a landscape picture. If you have a place to put your camera that is steady, you can take much better quality photographs. It is important to getting a shot that is not shaky. This is very important when you are taking landscape shots.

Terrific photography is dependent on good composition. Not everyone is born with an eye to be able to snap the best shot, so don't be afraid to put in the time developing that eye. If you move a subject off-center, it can help to make even the most boring scene interesting.

Continuously snap shots while moving closer to the subject that is being photographed. The viewer is a great way to get clear shots that can result in beautiful pictures.

Always take a few notes while you take pictures. When you are looking through the many photos you have taken, it can be hard to recall the locations in which you took them, or your feelings as you were doing it. Use a notepad to record numbers of photos and descriptions.

Try to frame every one of your shots. It doesn't have to be just a metal or a wooden frame, you can use a more natural one as well. Consider looking at the environment you're photographing in and using elements of nature to frame your shot. Practicing this technique will help you to better your composition skills.

Know when it is appropriate to use flash and when it isn't. Don't just turn it off and forget about it. In some instances, the extra light provided by the flash could ruin your shot. Learn when your flash is best used and also be conscious of the angle at which you use it.

Taking pictures in natural environments requires special care. Take in the beauty of the scene, and make sure you do nothing to spoil it. Don't clutter up an untouched spot where you took your photographs. Instead, leave it perfect for the next artist.

Don't be in a rush to take the picture. Ask your subjects to pose for you rather than trying to capture moments spontaneously. If you find your family photos aren't turning out very well, it could be because you have too many candid shots. This gives you a better shot at getting a good picture of everyone.

You should learn to utilize your camera's ISO setting or you might not have pictures of the highest quality. Remember that the higher you turn the ISO, the more you can see, and thus print, grain on your photo. This can completely ruin your shot.

Make sure you support the camera from below and on the sides, while keeping your arms tucked tightly into the sides of your body. The idea here is to reduce the shaking caused by normal movements. The end result should be clearer photos. You can also keep your camera from slipping out of your hands by holding it from the bottom, rather than the top.

If possible, you want the photo subject to be directly looking at the camera. A great and unique picture is to have the person you are photographing look off in the distance at something. Another idea is to tell your subject to concentrate on something or someone in the frame of the shot, without looking directly at the camera.

Investing in a tripod will allow you to take better photographs. If you are taking low-speed or active pictures, any slight jiggle or jitter will be noticed. Buying a tripod, even a very inexpensive one, can help eliminate all traces of blur from your photos. If your tripod is good, the pictures appear more professional and gets rid of any unwanted results.

Turn your next vacation into a photography session by taking photographs the moment you step out your front door. You will have tons of photo opportunities while on vacation, but don't forget about your travel time as a source of good trip pictures as well. Try documenting your journey. For example, an airport has many wonderful photo opportunities.

Take shots from a wide variety of angles to catch different perspectives. Shoot from several different heights and vantage points to open up possibilities you may not have otherwise envisioned.

How You Can Take Perfect Pictures Every Time

Although most people think that taking a picture is just as simple as pointing and shooting, there really is an art form to it. Typically, your photos never look quite as good as you imagined they would. However, once you learn the proper techniques, it really is simple to take great pictures.

In outdoor photography, lighting is the most important element. While the landscape may be beautiful, the photo can be destroyed by over-brightness, excessive shadows, or lighting splotches. When possible, shoot with the sun to your rear, or have your subjects stand in a shaded area. You will get the best lighting in these areas.

If excellent photos are very important to you, hook yourself up with a tripod. A tripod's main purpose is providing a steady base to stabilize your camera. This is especially useful during situations where there is low lights, or the shot is far away. Tripods are also extremely beneficial when taking self portraits or when shooting time-lapse photography.

Everyday items, such as digital cameras and cellphones, have increased in their picture-taking quality, but still suffer from dramatic lighting problems. You need to make sure your subject is well-lit, as many cell phone cameras don't have a built-in flash. Use zoom to keep shadows and sunspots out of the shot.

There are many shooting environments in which you do not have adequate natural light to photograph landscapes. It is also difficult most of the time to substitute the shot with a different location. How can you compensate for this? You could always use photo editing software, such as Photoshop, to change lighting.

Fiddle around with different shutter speeds to learn their effects. Capturing objects in motion can make them appear blurry, using a faster shutter speed can help you produce clear pictures. This can be helpful, especially when taking pictures of sporting events. Use a slower shutter speed if you want motion blur in your picture. Taking a picture of a stream or a waterfall can look especially breathtaking using a slow shutter speed.

Many people believe that it is advantageous to wear white when they are being photographed. However, white is actually one of the most unfavorable color choices. Many cameras are pre-set to automatically focus, so the camera seeks a "reading" of all the nuances and shades present in the frame of the picture. When someone is wearing white clothing it may become washed out in the picture.

Exercise patience with setting up your subject into the right pose. Candid pictures have their advantages, but very few turn out as interesting as posed pictures. This enables you to improve the look and feel of each shot.

Find the right person or thing to photograph. If you don't have the perfect subject, then the quality of your equipment, or the amount of your composure skills won't amount to much. Chose inanimate objects that inspire you, or search for a willing participant that can act as your muse.

Take pictures that are close and personal. Use the zoom feature of your camera, or get physically closer for the shot. Make sure the subject fills the frame. Even scenic backgrounds, when there are too much of it, will detract from the image. When the subject in your photo is close, you will also be able to notice more details that can enhance the picture.

In general, the digital cameras of today use built-in flash mechanisms that operate automatically when the camera is used in a dim lighting Even though these may be convenient, you may want to get an external flash with different light ranges, so that you have more control over your lighting. Check to make sure your camera has a "hot shoe" on top that will accommodate an external flash, then go to a professional camera store to ensure that you are getting one that automatically syncs with your camera.

Try different settings on the camera such as shutter speed or what works the best for you. One of the beautiful things about photography is that it lets you freeze a split-second scene or fuse together extended periods of time. A fast shutter speed lets you grab objects in motion and a shutter speed that is slow allows you to capture quiet natural settings.

Try to avoid including an overcast sky in your shots. A large swath of gray washes out a photo, giving a muted look to the entire shot. If you have to shoot with an overcast sky, use black and white methods of photography. You should include the sky in your pictures if it is a clear day and if the light is not too bright.

Make sure you use optical zoom rather than digital zoom if you want to take close-up shots. Cameras will usually let you zoom closer and closer optically until the digital zoom takes over. The problem is that this compromises the overall picture quality. Pixels are interpolated with digital zoom modes and cuts the image quality greatly. Read through your camera's instruction manual to determine whether or not you can disable digital zoom.

Experiment with taking pictures from different angles to see how it changes your interest in the subject of your photograph. Viewing one photo after another where the subject is perfectly centered in the shot can become boring in a hurry. Shooting a photo that is not exactly centered on the subject may produce more interesting results for your viewers.

Consider getting a case for your camera, as well as for other equipment you carry with you when taking pictures. A lot of things have been made for people that take pictures, to protect all of their equipment. A variety of cases will be available in camera or electronics stores.

In previous times, you pictures may have been sources of disappointment to you. If you paid close attention to the tips in this article, this should be a thing of the past, however. The information below gives you some great tips to take pictures that you'll want everyone to see.

Say Cheese! Photography Tips For All Skill Levels

A compendium of tips and tactics on photography is the perfect beginning for your photographs to emerge into beautiful works of art. Hopefully this arrangement of tips and tricks will allow novice photographers to improve a great deal.

Use your camera as a tool for your shots. If you want to blur the background and draw out the subject in your photo, use a shallow depth field.

You might want to join a club or group that specializes in photography, or perhaps, find another person who has the same interests as you. You can learn from others and pick up new ideas, but avoid letting their style take over your own. Compare the stylistic differences between photos you both took of the same object.

If you're a new photographer with an SLR camera, learn about how to use it. If you want to promote your photography from snapshots to art form, then you need to learn about aperture, composition, exposure, ISO, lighting and shutter speed.

Get in close to your subject when you take a picture. This makes sure the subject of the picture will cover the whole screen. This technique is especially effective for photographic stationary objects, like flowers. If you cannot do this, try using your camera's zoom button.

Some situations may have unavoidably bad lighting, such as photos of a landscape. There are also times when you can not find another area that is more consistent. What options do you have? Try using photo editing software to edit the photos with gradient filters that will counterbalance the contrasting light.

You need to find a suitable subject to photograph. It doesn't matter how great of a photographer you are, having a good subject that you can take pictures of is what's best. Select objects you are inspired by, or have someone pose for you.

Work with a brand that you feel comfortable with if you decide to make photography a long-term hobby. A lot of professional photographers swear to the quality of certain equipment makers, but many companies produce outstanding gear in their own little segments of the market.

Be on the lookout for any type of patterns, whether man-made or natural, when composing your photographs. Patterns that repeat make very interesting subjects for photography. You can get some interesting backgrounds and angles doing this.

Try framing all of your shots. Try using a natural frame instead of a metal or wooden one. Try looking at surrounding objects, such as trees or hills, to create a "natural frame" for your subject. This can be a wonderful way to compose your shots.

Use the right settings for the picture you are going to be taking prior to taking them. If shooting an object that is moving, you will need to change the settings to capture this picture. Use the right setting for the situation to make sure your photo is as good as it can be.

The focus-lock feature is a great tool to learn how to use. Many point-and-shoot cameras use auto-focus to target the object that appears in the middle of the frame. If your subject matter is positioned to one side, you must manually focus the camera. In most cases, this can be done by pushing the shutter button to the halfway point while your subject is still centered and then adjusting the camera until your subject is in your preferred position within the frame. Push the button the remainder of the way in order to take the picture.

Having your batteries always charged helps you avoid missing any great shots. Digital cameras consume a lot of battery life, particularly when you use the LCD screen; therefore, be sure that your batteries are charged fully before you need to use your camera. Another great idea would be carry an extra set of batteries for the camera so you don't miss your shot.

Taking pictures of natural settings should be done carefully. While it is important to fully appreciate the scene, you must also ensure that you are not leaving any piece of yourself behind. Leave the setting looking as if it was never touched by humans. If you discover a beautiful location to take pretty pictures, do your best to keep it this way for other photographers.

Don't choose a camera that uses lithium batteries if you are planning on traveling. Airports have banned loose batteries from being allowed in luggage as they are said to pose a risk to overheating and causing a fire. However, you can put these batteries in your camera, and carry the camera onto the plane.

To maximize the shots you have to choose from, begin snapping away and keep moving closer until the subject fills the frame. The viewer is a great way to get clear shots that can result in beautiful pictures.

There are many different and interesting things either in your home or outside that can produce an amazing picture. Experimentation should not scare you. Some of the best photographs will come about as you continue to take more pictures at interesting angles.

When taking photos indoors under fluorescent lighting, adjust the white balance settings in your camera to the appropriate setting. Fluorescent light gives a cold rather than a warm effect. This means you will need to adjust your settings to increase red and decrease blue tones.

A great way to warm up before photographing a wedding is to take detailed shots of small objects. You could even take some incredible shots by accident.

You may want to set your camera to take lower resolution pictures so that you can fit more images onto one memory card, but realize that you are sacrificing some quality in the process. Lower settings should only be used when you are one hundred percent confident that the images you are capturing will never see printing on paper.

Taking photographs that are beautiful and interesting requires some technical knowledge, artistic ability and experimentation. By incorporating them into your photography, you can be on your way to mastering your techniques.

Easy Techniques For Taking Professional Quality Photographs

Well done! However, due to the wealth of information available on photography, you might not know where the best place to start is. This article is filled with tips on taking better pictures.

When you are to shoot photos of couples, families or groups, think of suggesting to them in advance about what to wear. Although matching outfits aren't necessary, having your subjects clothed in complementary shades of color can enhance a photograph. Suggest to them that warm colors and neutral shades look best in the outdoors. If your subjects absolutely have to wear bright, bold colors, try to get them to wear at least one item that is black in order to avoid a clash of colors.

Many times in life, we receive the training that things must be centered and even. Most people are attracted to symmetry, even in pictures. That said, sometimes going against the grain with an off-center photo is an easy way to add interest. Watch out for auto-focus features that might lock on the object that sits at the center of your lens. You can use the manual focus to center the picture the way you want it, then take the photo.

Whenever you are taking photographs of landscapes, your pictures should always have three key aspects. These include the foreground, mid-ground and background of the image. You need these for good photography and other art forms as well.

Get some free editing software, and have a little fun with it. Professional photographers use this software to touch up their pictures, you can take advantage of it as well. It's possible to take an ordinary photograph and make it stellar with only a few simple touch-ups.

Make sure you are aware of where sharpness appears in the picture and how it works. As a rule, this sharply focused part of the photographic image will be in its center. It then begins to distort as it approaches the outside edges of the frame of your camera.

Divide your viewfinder with three imaginary horizontal and vertical lines. Your picture will be more interesting if you center the intersection of the lines over your subject, rather than simply putting your subject in the middle of the frame.

You may take a few dozen pictures before you find one that is worth keeping, but be sure to hold onto the ones that did not quite make the cut. Getting better at photography is much better done when you have a scrapbook of general work, and not just a book of perfect pictures.

Photos taken in dark lighting tend to blur, so it can be more tricky than normal. To reduce blurring, be certain that your hands refrain from shaking. Rest you hands on something sturdy if need be before you snap the picture. For the best possible pictures in low light, you should use a tripod.

Knowing how to hold a camera properly is important for photography. Without a proper tripod or method of holding your camera, the quality of your shot will deteriorate. Your arms should be close to your torso, and your non-dominant hand should support the lens and keep as still as possible.

Take pictures of anything and everything on trips. Small unique details are often what makes a particular item, location or face interesting. Shoot pictures of small objects like tickets and coins and also larger things like street signs and strange objects in markets.

Whenever you are in charge of taking photos for an event or celebration, draft a list of shots that you or the attendees would like to capture ahead of time. This allows you to be organized during the chaos that results from a big party.

If you are taking a picture outdoors, double-check to see if you should use the flash. The bright sun can make deep shadows in the face. Set your camera to "fill flash" if it has that setting. This helps get into the deep facial folds.

Spend time putting your subject in different poses. Study other good photos and remeber what good poses look like. If your family event photos don't seem to ever turn out well, better posing of your subjects could solve the problem. This enables you to improve the look and feel of each shot.

A lot of people think beautiful, sunny days are good pictures, but direct sunlight can actually harm a photo sometimes. Direct sun will cast shadows and cause glares but it will cause highlights that are uneven and your subjects may squint. If you're goint to take pictures outside, do it first thing in the morning or just before sunset.

One of the most engaging type of photos is the action photo, such as a sporting event. When taking these types of photos, however, it is important to have the camera on the right setting. The way to capture action is with a higher ISO setting. What you'll be left with are crisper, cleaner, clearer shots of the moving objects you shoot.

Use your shutter speeds creatively. It's commonly accepted to use super-high speeds in order to freeze moments in time, but slower shutter speeds have their advantages too. Have a look at fast subjects such as cyclists, birds and cars. The resulting image will portray the cyclist in sharp outline, but the background will appear streaked, as in motion.

Overcast skies aren't great for pictures. Leaving too much of the gray sky in your photograph might make the whole shot look too muted and lacking in contrast. Black and white photos can work better if shot on overcast days. A clear blue sky is always lovely in a photo, but adjust your settings to account for bright light.

Protect your camera equipment while traveling. Packing it in a carry on may be your best option. Bring all lenses that you think you will possibly use, plus a few extra batteries and cleaning tools. Never pack more than you need. Think about which items will be convenient for taking on your trip.

After reading this article, you should have some new ideas to improve your own pictures. Feel free to refer to this information again whenever necessary. If you are patient enough, your pictures will eventually look like art.

Guide On How To Effectively Take Better Photos

Photography is a great way to highlight all the beauty you see in your life, and a great showcase for what you see in the world. And, if you develop the correct techniques for taking great photographs, it can also be an enjoyable way to earn a living. The following article contains some great information on how you can go about taking wonderful looking photographs.

Try different shutter speeds to create unique effects. If you want to capture something on the move, using a low f value will shorten the exposure time, which eliminates motion blur. For sporting events, this is a must. Another option is to emphasize the motion blur by using a slower shutter speed. Try taking a picture of running water with this method.

While it is popular to wear white in photographs, it is the hardest color to capture well in a picture. Most photographs will use the auto-focus setting and let the camera interpret what is in the frame. White will register as an abundance of available light and cause an overexposed appearance in photos.

Enhance the final look of your photos by cropping them in appropriate places. Perhaps you have a perfect picture that contains one minor flaw. Another common malady is a misaligned composition in what could possibly be your favorite shot. These issues are easily remedied by clever cropping later.

Know if your photos are under or overexposed. If you learn to use your camera's histogram, you can avoid this mistake. This measures the picture's exposure and informs you if the shot is either over exposed or under exposed, so it can prevented in the future.

Always have your images balanced. By properly balancing photographs, you'll have high quality photos fit for an art gallery. If you end up with some distracting images, use photographic editing software to crop your image.

You can improve your photographs by keeping the camera and your attention focused on your subject. Having your subject matter in complete focus is a key element to taking fantastic photos which reflect your style and your intentions when shooting. The main thing to focus on starting out is centering your subject and being certain you are including the entire subject in the picture. The background will do it's own thing.

Try to experiment with colors, angles and the different features of your camera. A good picture isn't all about the subject, it's also about the artistic way it is portrayed. A good photographer should be able to make a picture of an unoriginal object look interesting, thanks to their skills and artistic talent. Finding your style can be done by trying different techniques.

Educating yourself about appropriate composition can help your photography improve, regardless of whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer. If there is lack within the composition, the photograph will suffer, as this is true across all forms of art. Composition requires you to find lines and patterns in your images. Learning about it will truly improve the quality of your photos.

Any subject can make an interesting photograph, however, for some subjects, in order to make a good photograph, you may need to adjust your camera's setting, alter the angle which you capture the image from or change the surrounding lighting. Tinker with these settings before you take pictures of things you are planning to shoot in order to get the best pictures possible.

Being at the same level as your subject will ensure you don't get an odd looking angle. It is an easy fix that will make a big difference in your portrait quality.

One way to foster creativity in your photography is to impose limitations on yourself. For example, set a goal for the day to only shoot images that represent a single concept, such as "sweet." Don't allow yourself to quit until you have shot one-hundred different pictures that are focusing on this same concept. Limitations can often times allow us to see beautiful, or unique things, that would have otherwise gone undetected.

Don't restrict yourself to taking pictures of your subject from only one angle. Be creative and reposition your shots so that you can experiment with different angles. Experiment with taking a picture above and below your subject, as well as moving off to the side.

Try to think of a concept before you start shooting. Take some time to write ideas and notes that you could use for shooting better photos. Photography is like any other art form; the quality shows through when carefully thought out plans and details are executed. If you follow these guidelines, you will begin to notice improvements in the quality of your work.

Be sure to get a protective case that you can put your camera and other photography equipment in. Often, damage or destruction of equipment could have easily been avoided if the owner had their equipment secured in a protective case. A variety of cases will be available in camera or electronics stores.

One crucial thing to remember is to shoot multiple pictures of your subject; take as many as possible. You can choose later which shots are best. If you are working in a digital medium, you can take advantage of this without additional cost. This is especially useful when you want to capture a certain mood or aspect of an image.

Try different angles to make your photographs more unique. It takes no special skill to simply point and shoot a photo head-on. Look down at things from high up, or get down on the ground, and look up at them. You might also find that angled or side shots create a distinctive photographic experience.

Experimenting with the focus can produce some interesting images. The f-stop numbers control how wide open the aperture of your camera is when taking a picture. This in turn affects the depth of field. Smaller f-stop numbers mean that your depth of field is shallow, and you can focus on your subject while the background is blurry. This is great for taking portraits, or any photograph where the subject of the shot is near the camera. A larger f-stop number will increase the depth of the field, making everything in the photograph, background and foreground, focused. This works great for landscape shots.

Because you now have all of this knowledge of photography, you should have the ability to impress everyone with your new-found skills in photography Who knows, you could even improve to the point where you are good enough to be a professional photographer.
